Last week we talked about how fonts and colors tell a message. During class on Monday, we talked about minimal art-- art that conveys a complex message or idea in a simple image.

Superman & Batman assignment (6 parts)
Work with a partner to complete all 6 parts of this assignment. Your work may be done in Photoshop or Illustrator, and needs to be turned in as 6 separate files (one file for each part of the assignment, each file should have both characters).
Part 1 (silhouette): Create the image of each superhero by using one single sold shape to create one silhouette (per character, two silhouettes total). Your end result should be similar to the Pokémon outlines we did earlier, but fill each shape with one color.
Part 2 (a few shapes, simple colors): Create the image of each superhero by using more than 1 but less than 5 shapes (per character, more than 2 but less than 10 shapes total). You are limited to using 2 colors (per character, 4 colors total) in addition to the background color.
Part 3 (geometric shapes): Create the image of each superhero by using only geometric shapes(triangle, square, rectangle, pentagon, circle, ellipse, etc.) You are limited to using 4 colors (per character, 8 colors total) in addition to the background color.
Part 4 (your style, crisp edges): Create an image of each superhero that has a definite outline. Make it in a style of your choice (ie. clip art, comic book style, stencil, etc.) Try to keep your colors simple (for example, greens and browns or reds and greys).
Part 5 (simplifying pictures): Take an existing photo or artwork of each superhero from the Internet and use the Photoshop filter of your choice on it. In the filter gallery settings, adjust the sliders to make it as minimal as possible while still being recognizable.
Part 6 (movie poster): Now use what you learned in the above to make a minimalist Superman vs. Batman poster. You may not use text or anyone else's existing art. (ie. you can use Photoshop filters, but not on someone else's picture).
Submit each part of your project as you complete it on the Submit your Work page. Make sure to tell me which part you are submitting and the last names of each partner (for example, Part1.SmithJones.psd).
The completed assignment (all 6 parts) is due at the end of class on Wednesday, May 14.
